I don’t know what it is but day time talk shows like Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, Dr. Phil, etc. seem to have a fascination with Transsexuals. One of the best known of all of these is when Maury Povich has his “Is it a Man or a Woman” episodes. These shows are some of the most highly rated in Maury’s history. I mean fuck how many times can you watch a peternity test episode?

Dr Phil has also tackled this issue several times. His take is usually a little more serious. With Shows like “Gender Confused Kids” he has the children’s parents on the show and they discuss how the child feels as if they are living a lie and was truly meant to be a Boy or a Girl.

Jerry Springer seems to tackle this subject alot in his usual “Shock and Bewilder” kind of way. Shows with Titles like “Transsexual Takedown” Where unsuspecting boyfriends find out that their girlfriends were actually born male. You of course know the rest… All hell breaks loose and punches and chairs get thrown. Weather these are real or staged incidents they no doubt Entertain the audience.

So why so much fascination? Personally I have always felt that it is because seeing a transsexual is actually quite a rare occurrence. It’s not like you are bumping into transsexuals as you are walking down the street on a daily basis. Depending on where you live in some cases you could probably live your entire life without EVER seeing a Transgender person. We as humans are definitely interested in the more rare and mysterious things in life.
